French Bull Dogs

"Frenchies" are bred primarily as pets and companions, but they do make a good watchdog.

"Frenchies" are bred primarily as pets and companions, but they do make a good watchdog. He is to some limits a smaller version of the English Bulldog. Frenchies make good apartment dogs, but do enjoy roaming outside on a lead.

A wonderful companion to small children who loves to play dress-up or a lonely delivery driver looking for a lighthearted partner to ride shotgun. In a family situation he behaves like a child, demanding a great deal of personal attention and interaction. The exercise needs of this dog are uncomplicated.

This breed does well in apartments and is well behaved, adaptable, and comfortable companions with an affectionate nature and even disposition; generally active, alert, and playful.

Breed Facts:

There are two weight varieties for the French Bulldog: under 22 pounds, and 22 - 28 pounds, which is rather large for a toy dog. They are heavy-boned and muscular dogs, with round, short bodies. Their color can be fawn, white, brindle, or pied.

Although dating back to Spain in the 1600's, the French Bulldog was principally developed in France from British stock. When Britain had little luck miniaturizing the breed, they were take to France, where they were named. The dogs received poor to no recognition when brought back to Britain, and were ignored or called "nondescript". Britain's believed the "French" title was inappropriate and tasteless.
